Skiing in Beaver Creek, CO

Every year we go skiing with the family. This year’s choice was Beaver Creek. It is a luxury resort within a 2-hour drive from Denver. We flew to Denver, rented a car and drove through winter paradise to a beautiful village with pine trees covered in multicolor Christmas lights.

Accommodations

We stayed in a three bedroom condo at the Beaver Creek Landing Condos. It was spacious, beautifully decorated in a western style, with a gas fireplace, balcony, and Mountain View. The location was terrific with a chairlift a few feet from the condo. Outside hot tub and heated pool are part of the condo complex. It was the best accommodations and location we have stayed so far.

Village

Beaver Creek village looks like an open-air art gallery with an ice skating rink in the middle. All the buildings in the center are built in the style of European alpine village. There are a few dozen outdoor sculptures, several art galleries, and plenty of restaurants. Overall it feels like a magic skiing Disney World village.

Skiing

Beaver Creek skiing area is large with a lot of lifts, gondolas, and a variety of intermediate slopes. Our favorite area was Arrowhead, with its long, blue, uncrowded runs. All the slopes were perfectly groomed. We skied for 4 days. Because our condo was easily accessible from a ski run, we were able to rest and eat lunch in the apartment and then continue skiing.

Apres ski

We just went to our outdoor hot tub and heated pool in our condo to relax after a hard day of skiing. There are plenty of bars and restaurants in Beaver Creek village and nearby Avon

Restaurants

Beaver Creek and nearby villages have plenty of expensive and inexpensive restaurants. We visited both types.
Craftsmen-casual restaurant in Edwards with delicious sandwiches. Inexpensive but very, very good.
Vin48-upscale fusion cuisine restaurant. Very pleasant with good food and wine. Reasonably priced.
Osaki-upscale Japanese restaurant in Vail with a fantastic selection of raw fish. Expensive.
Pepi’s-Austrian restaurant in Vail with the best veal sausages and veal schnitzel outside of Germany and Austria. Inexpensive and recommend for lunch only.

Side Trips

If you in the area, a visit to Vail is a must. Vail is only 15 minutes drive from Beaver Creek. It is a luxurious ski resort that I think is much better than the famed Aspen.
We did not ski there this time, but it is possible on the same lift ticket. Vail village is stunning with a lot of outdoor art, fire pits, upscale stores, and fantastic architecture.
